Comparing Earthquake Power

Underwater earthquakes in the Pacific and Indian oceans are not uncommon, but rarely do they trigger deadly tsunamis. The December 2004 tsunami in Indonesia caught the world by surprise — with deadly consequences. Despite improvements in earthquake monitoring and warning systems, some coastal areas still receive alerts only minutes before it's too late. Below, a look at how three significant underwater temblors stack up against each other in power.

Voc :

tsunami [tsju:'nɑ:mi] : n. 海嘯,(from Japanese) an extremely large wave in the sea caused, for example, by an earthquake. t silence.
temblor [tem'blɔ:] : n. <主美>地震. Earthquake.
stack up : v. 加起來
stack [stæk] : v. 推疊 n. 堆,一堆
